Patterns (Chester Creek Trail)

Nature is a tension between chaos and order.
Culture is a combination of nature and design.
I want to design something that makes the tension enjoyable.

When I saw the opportunity to create a mural on the Chester Creek Trail, it was exciting, because it opened the month that I moved to Rockdale and I love it. It makes a perfect loop for a walk from my house as if it were designed specifically for my family. A lot of murals try to tell a story or a message. While I can enjoy that as I drive through a city, seeing the same story or message over and over, as I walk, my loop, year after year, seemed like it would be tiresome. The things that never get tiresome are how the creek rushes pasts rocks, or the wind blows through tall grass, or how the sky variates in color, inch by inch, moment by moment. The key elements behind all of these things are currents, movement, repetition, and color. As I looked at that gray wall, I wanted to join that chorus. I looked around at the palette and strokes that nature provided and considered how I could make something that would give everyone another experience as they walked this beautiful trail.
