Luminescent Polygon

paper series

The Luminescent Polygon paper series is a body of fifteen individual works on paper, completed in 2021.

Jay Walker’s Luminescent Polygon Series evolved from his Prismatic Polygon Series, with the idea to infuse them with an internal light or glow, much the way gems glow. Created in a similar way as the Prismatic Polygon Series, the pieces are more self-contained and less varied. With the use of all spray paint and masking tape, Walker aims to simplify the form and give a three-dimensional perspective with a harder, tighter feel to each image. To achieve this, he uses complementary colors but contrasts the polygons and the fields on which they sit. Also utilizing a flatter background, the polygons pop with color and texture choices: blue-green on deep red-orange, dense colors with light, sparse ones.
