GOLIAD POLYGONS
GOLIAD POLYGON Sculpture Series
Rooted in his relocation to a remote ranch near Goliad, Texas, Jay Walker’s Goliad Polygon Series embraces a new level of immediacy and material experimentation. Constructed from shaped wood paneling and utilizing a range of painting techniques, these works engage in a playful deception of space. While the forms suggest large, volumetric structures one might walk around, they are in reality flat, wall-mounted relief sculptures that rely on optical illusion to create depth. By shaping the panels themselves rather than containing them within a frame, Walker presents them as distinct objects that activate the wall, merging the deceptive vibrancy of painting with the tangible presence of sculpture.
